HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR IMAGING PROCEDURE

Preparation for Specific Imaging Examinations

CT SCAN: (Allow 1-2 hours for this examination) NOTHING to eat for 4 hours prior to the exam. You may have clear liquids only (water, apple juice). Some patients may need to drink oral contrast. Patients requiring oral contrast must arrive 2 hours prior. Our Radiologists require a minimum of 1 hour rest after the patients have finished drinking their oral contrast to obtain highest quality imaging.

X-Ray: X-ray requires no special preparation. Remove some clothing and/or change into a gown for the examination. Remove jewelry, removable dental appliances, eyeglasses, and any metal objects or clothing that might interfere with the x-ray images.

ECG: Ensure that electronic devices (e.g. smartphone, smartwatch) are removed from the patient. These devices can produce artifacts (interference) and cause problems with the readings.Ensure no jewelry on wrist and neck. Ensure legs are exposed.

What You Should Bring

  • Photo ID
  • Health insurance card(s) (if you have one)
  • Referral/Request from your Doctor
  • Medical history, including whether you may be pregnant or breastfeeding currently.
  • List of your current medications
  • Any previous films and reports for comparison

Allergies to Contrast

If you have a history of contrast reaction please tell your doctor so that a prescription for pre-medicine may be made for you.

Women (Pregnancy)

If there is ANY chance that you may be pregnant let your doctor know before proceeding with the preparation and/or examination.

Kidney Function Test: BUN and Creatinine Blood Test

This is required within 3-7 days prior to the examination for:
  • The elderly (60 years of age plus)
  • Diabetic patients (Insulin and non-insulin dependent) 
  • History of Kidney Insufficiency / Kidney masses / Single kidney
If this test is done at an outside facility, it is the patient’s responsibility to obtain a copy of the result and bring it to the appointment with them.

Claustrophobia

If you are claustrophobic, please have your doctor prescribe an anti-anxiety medication to take the day of the examination. For your safety you will be required to have a designated driver to drive you home once the examination is complete.

Where is your office located?

Medilab Building, Ground Floor Opposite Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Polyclinic, Kumasi.

Who will perform the examination?

A registered radiographer assisted by a nurse.

What does the price include?

The price includes all the technical and professional components.

Do I need a doctor's request form?

Yes, a request form from a doctor is necessary with the test needed to be performed with a brief patient medical history.

Is an appointment necessary?

You can just walk in for immediate service or call to book an appointment.

Should I do anything special to prepare for my imaging procedure?

No special preparation is necessary. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. If you are wearing jewellery or other metal objects, we may ask you to remove them. When necessary, special instructions will be given prior to your exam.

How will I be notified of my results?

We will call you when your results are ready. Or you can call as to check using the phone number on your receipt.

Will my doctor receive my results?

We can send your results digitally to your doctor or can pick up your results and send to them.

What do I need to bring with me for my appointment?

Please bring a request form with the test needed to be done with the name and telephone number of your referring physician.

Who will interpret my exam?

A radiologist with subspecialty training will interpret your imaging examination and prepare your report.

Is there handicapped access?

Yes. There is parking right in front of the building with wheelchair access.

Where do I park?

Right in front of the building. There are parking attendants available 24/7 to assist patients.

How do I pay for my scan?

You can pay by cash or mobile money. 100% will be due at the time of the procedure. 

How long will it take to get my report?

Reports are usually received within 24 hours depending of the procedure performed
